The New York Giants are in Detroit to open the season against the Detroit Lions and so far it’s been a less than stellar start. The defense has already given up 14 points to the Lions — both Calvin Johnson touchdowns — but the Giants unit is already down a major cog.

More from NFL

Jason Pierre-Paul is a guy that the Giants need to have a good season and less than a quarter into his first game of the season, Pierre-Paul is already out. After falling and bending his neck awkwardly, Pierre-Paul was carted into the Giants locker room for further tests to see if everything is alright.

Pierre-Paul eventually returned to the sidelines, but the last thing the Giants need is to start losing star players to injuries. They had a rough season in 2013 and Pierre-Paul needs to stay healthy if the Giants defense has any hope of rolling out of the funk they’re in as the 2014 season begins.
