The New York Jets opened the season with a win, normally a good thing, albeit this one came against the perennial less than mediocre Oakland Raiders. Jets head coach Rex Ryan isn’t particularly thrilled with the win though.

“We’ll take it,” he said. “[I’m] not very happy with it, but it’s a victory. I know we have to get better.”

The game wasn’t secured until Chris Ivory scored a 71-yard touchdown run roughly six minutes into the fourth quarter. The Raiders scored a late touchdown pass to, setting up a thrilling ending if they could recover the onside kick, which they did not.

The biggest red flag for Ryan and the Jets? Penalties and turnovers. The Jets had 11 penalties and two turnovers that helped the Raiders stay in the game.

“The negatives are what is holding this team back,” Ryan said. “If we eliminate those penalties, take care of the football, this thing would have been over. It would have been a beat down. We would have pushed them around, like they said they were going to do to us.”
