The San Francisco 49ers had a tumultuous offseason that led many to doubt whether the team could repeat the dominance it has quickly become known for under head coach Jim Harbaugh. With everything from the team’s best defensive player being suspended for nine games to Harbaugh’s own place on the team being questioned, it was hard to imagine this team was as good as previous squads. The team put that to rest for at least a week when they dismantled the Dallas Cowboys.

“I think this game was about steel in the spine,” Harbaugh said per the San Jose Mercury News, “and when it comes to 49ers players, that’s where they excel. They’ve got titanium in the spine.”
The 49ers beat the Cowboys 28-17 and it was hardly even that close. The team led 28-3 for most of the game thanks to two defensive touchdowns and two more from the arm of QB Colin Kaepernick.
While many still have the 49ers as being a step behind division rival Seattle Seahawks, thanks to defensive injuries and suspensions among other things, the records are even for now. We’ll know more about who belongs atop the division when the teams play twice in three weeks, starting in Week 13. Until then, Harbaugh and the 49ers will just have to put their backs into it and stay in the race until they can prove they belong in the Super Bowl discussion once again.
