The New York Knicks met their goal of re-signing forward Carmelo Anthony in the offseason but they have made no secret they want to pair Anthony with other stars. However, the team lacked the cap room to really make a move in 2014. That’s why they’ll have to enter the 2014-2015 season trying to contend for the postseason with an upgrade at point guard and a downgrade at center – the Knicks dealt Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton to the Dallas Mavericks for a package that included Jose Calderón. There have been rumors they could deal big man Amar’e Stoudemire in an attempt to upgrade.

Chuck Myron of Hoops Rumors believes the Knicks will hang on to Stoudemire because they want 2015 cap space – his contract (as well as Andrea Bargnani’s) will come off of the books in 2015.
"I would think the Knicks hang up, since cap space is a priority for the summer of 2015…"
That list includes Minnesota Timberwolves’ power forward Kevin Love, Portland Trail Blazers’ big man LaMarcus Aldridge and Memphis Grizzlies’ center Marc Gasol. However, the only truly attainable player appears to be Gasol and he has expressed his desire to remain with the Grizzlies.
Stoudemire had a rough 2013-2014 season despite staying relatively healthy (he missed 17 games). He put up just 11.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game while shooting 55.7% from the field and 73.9% from the free throw line. Over his career, he has averaged 20.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 blocks in 33.0 minutes per game while shooting 53.5% from the field and 76.2% from the charity stripe.
