Apparently there is a reason that Oklahoma Sooners fans have not seen defensive tackle Quincy Russell on the field in the two games this season. On Monday, Russell posted on his Facebook page that he was dismissed from the team.

So far, there is on definitive word from the Oklahoma brass, but Russell’s post makes it pretty clear that his services were no longer wanted by the university.
Russell transferred to Oklahoma last season from Trinity Valley Community College in Terrell, Texas. He appeared in two games for the Sooners last season, but was not on the depth chart for either of the Sooners games so far this season.
Baylor and Texas were also recruiting Russell before he chose Oklahoma, though his final two schools were Oklahoma and Nebraska. He chose Oklahoma because of an immediate need at the tackle position on the defensive line.
However, Russell’s arrival in Norman was delayed from January of 2013 all the way into August because of academic issues. This set him back in his pickup of the defensive scheme, and hampered his chance to play a larger role in Mike Stoops’ defense.
On the depth chart at the end of the summer, Russell was listed as the third string defensive tackle behind Jordan Phillips and Jordan Wade. Russell recorded three tackles in his two game appearances last season, and was expected to be a bigger part of the line rotation this year now that he had a more firm grasp of the system.
Where will his new home be? Chances are we will find out sooner from Russell on his Facebook page.
