Allen has a few different options when considering what he wants to do and retiring is very much at the top of the list. But there are a two teams who may be able to entice him to return and both offer similar yet drastically different situations.
NBA scribe Chuck Myron opines Ray Allen’s best landing spot if he wants to get paid to win is in San Antonio and his best spot to land if he wants to win at all costs is Cleveland.
"I said the Spurs made sense several weeks back, so I wasn’t surprised to see them jump into the mix. They’ve got their entire $5.305MM midlevel to go around, the sort of veteran coach Ray says he wants, and they’re obviously a contender. But with Sam Smith’s report from this weekend, among others, suggesting he’s more open to playing for the minimum than he indicated previously, that gives the Cavs as good a shot as anyone. So if I had to guess, I’d say one of those two teams."
Allen may be done with basketball and could call it a career after all of this speculation on where he’s going to sign. He’s entering his 19th season as a pro and while basketball seems like a less violent sport than football or hockey, wear and tear on a body is the same no matter where you play.
