Monday afternoon the Baltimore Ravens took the more than necessary move of terminating the contract of running back Ray Rice after video was released of Rice striking his then fiance Janay in a hotel casino elevator. After months of wondering what actually happened on that fateful night, we were finally shown first-hand footage of what went down, and it was gruesome.

More from NFL

Now, speaking from a football standpoint, Rice is a free agent. While it’s pretty unlikely, a team could decide that he’s worth the risk, and PR hit, and sign him to their organization.

That’s all well and good, but the one issue is that should a team decide that want to completely explode their PR Department by allowing Rice onto their roster, it would never completely come to fruition, because the league would make sure it doesn’t happen.

According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the NFL will not approve any contract between Rice and another team in the league, until Commissioner Roger Goodell provides further direction.

This move by the NFL is a huge no-brainer, as they cannot allow Rice in their league anytime in the near future. The sad part is that the NFL even has to make this known, but they do because there very well might be an executive out there that would seriously entertain the idea of putting Rice in their backfield.

Well if anyone is having those thoughts, they can forget them completely now.
