Thursday is the 13th anniversary of September 11 and several different teams in various sports around the country are honoring the lives lost on that day.

More from College Football

One of the more prominent stories connected to September 11 is that of former Boston College Eagles’ lacrosse player Welles Crowther.

Crowther, an equities trader in New York, was in the twin towers on September 11 and rather than simply trying to get out of the building, he spent his time helping others escape the smoke and flames, saving several lives in the process. He reportedly helped put out fires and administer first aid. Crowther always wore a red bandana under his lacrosse helmet and had one on to block the smoke as he helped those in the building. One woman even described herself as “being saved by a man in a red bandana.”

When the Eagles host the Southern Cal Trojans on Saturday night, they will be wearing “red bandana” uniforms to honor Crowther.

The official twitter account of the Eagle’s football equipment room posted the uniforms on twitter.
