The Detroit Tigers are still waiting on the return of starter Anibal Sanchez, but he’s started to play catch, it went well:

Sanchez has been on the disabled list since his last start on August 8, and the Tigers certainly would want him back as soon as he’s healthy enough. Before going down with his pectoral injury, Sanchez was arguably the Tigers’ second-best starting pitcher, posting a 3.46 ERA in 21 starts (125 innings) and striking out 102 hitters.
It’s unclear if Sanchez will return in time for the regular season. The Tigers originally expected him back by the beginning of September, but he suffered a small setback and was shut down for a couple of days. Even if he misses the rest of regular season, it’s possible Sanchez could still be a factor for the Tigers in the postseason, if Detroit clinches. Entering play tonight, the Tigers are tied with the Kansas City Royals for the AL Central lead. In the meantime, Detroit will rely on starters Max Scherzer, David Price and the struggling Justin Verlander.
The Tigers got some good news, however, in hearing shortstop Jose Iglesias has been cleared for some exercise activities.
Jose Iglesias cleared for lower-body exercises after follow-up exams in Colorado. Goal is to get him ready for normal offseason program.
