Packers running back Eddie Lacy wore a special concussion-proof helmet in Green Bay’s season opener against the Seahawks last Friday. And he still got a concussion.

He sustained the concussion in the fourth quarter and did not return. Lacy must be cleared by an independent doctor before returning to practice or game action.
Nothing seemed to go right for the Packers in their week 1 loss. But it probably wasn’t only the fault of Green Bay. Most offenses will struggle when they face the defending NFL Champion Seattle Seahawks this season.
Things are looking better for Lacy. Fantasy owners can take a little solace in their likely Top 5 selection. So, too can Packers’ skipper Mike McCarthy, who picked Lacy in a real NFL Draft. Apparently, Lacy’s progress is promising.
“Eddie Lacy is near the end (of the concussion protocol),” Mike McCarthy said, via Bleacher Report’s Zach Kruse.
Lacy was out of practice on Wednesday, but McCarthy’s comment leave the door open for him to play this week. It sounds like there’s a clear possibility that he could see the field.
If he’s healthy and can play, the Packers offense should look better. Still, James Starks has always proved a reliable backup and averaged 5.3 yards per carry on seven carries (37 yards) in the opener. Lacy averaged only 2.8 on 12 carries (34 yards).
