Maurice Jones-Drew’s Oakland Raiders career didn’t exactly get off to a hot start. MJD rushed for just 11 yards on nine carries during the team’s season-opener against the New York Jets.

Now, CSN Bay Area is reporting that Jones-Drew is injured and was forced to undergo a hand procedure on Wednesday.
"Maurice Jones-Drew injured his hand in Sunday’s 19-14 loss to the Jets and underwent a procedure to repair the injury, a source told Comcast SportsNet’s Fallon Smith. The nine-year veteran was not at practice on Wednesday.Despite the procedure, Jones-Drew isn’t expected to miss much time — if any — according to a source with knowledge of the situation."
It’s obviously good news for Oakland that Jones-Drew likely won’t miss significant time, but this injury is yet another reason to be concerned about how MJD will perform this season.
Jones-Drew’s career has been trending downward for years now and he is a fresh off a 2013 campaign with the Jacksonville Jaguars in which he rushed for just 803 yards on 234 carries.
With Darren McFadden currently Oakland’s No. 2 running back, the team at least has the talent to survive if MJD is forced to miss time. McFadden isn’t the back we thought he would be coming out of Arkansas in 2008, but his career 4.2 yards per carry makes him a serviceable fill-in.
The Jaguars selected Jones-Drew with the No. 60 pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. Oakland signed MJD to a three-year deal this past offseason.
