The NFL and NFL Player’s Association are negotiating a new drug policy, one that could drastically impact players currently suspended, like Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker and Dallas Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick.

Both Welker and Scandrick were suspended for amphetamine use, which currently is classified as a performance-enhancing drug and carries an automatic four game suspension. The new drug policy would declare it a recreational drug that doesn’t carry an automatic suspension.

If the NFL and the NFLPA strike a new deal, it could have an impact on Welker and Scandrick who are currently serving suspensions. If a new deal is reached before their Week Two games, they could be available to play.
