The Rutgers Scarlet Knights, in their first season as a member of the Big Ten Conference, are off to a 2-0 start to their 2014 season, which includes an opening-week win over Washington State. Well, apparently that was enough for the school and head coach Kyle Flood to decide that they should keep their relationship going on a little bit longer.

Rutgers announced on Thursday that Flood will now be signed through the 2019 season and he will receive a pay increase that will begin starting next season.
In the release, athletic director Julie Hermann explained the decision to give Flood the extension.
“Kyle Flood is a tremendous coach for our football team and has earned the opportunity to lead us into the Big Ten and build on our program successes,” athletic director Julie Hermann said in a statement. “With the generosity of private funding, we are pleased to invest in our Head Coach and our entire staff at a level more consistent with our Big Ten peers.”
School president Robert Barchi also chimed in.
“Coach Flood exemplifies our university’s standards and values both on and off the field,” said RU president Robert Barchi. “He has put together a strong coaching staff that supports our mission to compete well both in the classroom and on the field.”
In over two years with the Scarlet Knights, Flood has compiled a record of 17-11 and he and his team will make their Big 10 debut this weekend at home against Penn State.
