Keys to Victory

Miami Dolphins: Last December the Miami Dolphins were routed by the Buffalo Bills 19-0 at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Week 16. To avoid a similar outcome, the Dolphins offensive line needs to keep Ryan Tannehill upright and in the pocket and keep Mario Williams out of the backfield.

With the Dolphins offense ticking on all cylinders in the second half of last week’s victory over the New England Patriots, the Dolphins will once again need a strong performance from their running backs Lamar Miller and Knowshon Moreno. If the Dolphins running backs are making big plays like they were last week, that gives Tannehill the opportunity to unleash deep balls when the Bills stack the box, and also confuse the Bills defense with play action passes.

Buffalo Bills: The Bills beat the Dolphins twice last year, thanks in large part to their defensive line sacking Ryan Tannehill and forcing turnovers consistently. They also beat the Dolphins twice without quarterback EJ Manuel, and rookie wide receiver Sammy Watkins was still at Clemson.

The Dolphins defense completely shut down Tom Brady and the Patriots last week, so the Bills will need to capitalize on all of their opportunities and be very wary of Cameron Wake and Olivier Vernon. Expect a healthy dose of CJ Spiller and Fred Jackson as the Bills look to exploit the Dolphins injury plagued linebacking corps.

Prediction

Both teams are looking to start their season 2-0 and take sole possession of first place in the AFC East. The Dolphins have struggled mightily against the Bills in recent years, especially with their anemic offensive line and inept offense over the last several seasons, but this is not the same Dolphins team.

With the defensive line getting to and disrupting EJ Manuel consistently, the Bills won’t have many chances to put points on the board. The Dolphins’ new offense, spearheaded by offensive coordinator Bill Lazor, makes a point to get the ball out of Tannehill’s arm quickly, and if he can do that on Sunday, the Dolphins could put up big numbers once again and pull out the victory.

Final Score: Miami Dolphins: 24, Buffalo Bills: 14
