The NFL and NFL Players’ Association have been working on a new drug policy. One of the key pieces of a new drug policy would be the reclassification of amphetamines from performance-enhancing drugs to recreational drugs.
It also means a positive test for amphetamines wouldn’t be an automatic suspension for first-time offenses. The NFLPA is going to vote on the new drug policy on Friday, and if agreed upon that means players who tested positive for amphetamines would be eligible to play.
That list includes Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker, Dallas Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick and Miami Dolphins defensive lineman Dion Jordan.
The @NFLPA as scheduled a vote tomorrow afternoon of the 32 player reps on the potential new drug policy, source says.

A new drug deal, if agreed upon, would bring back players who tested positive for amphetamines: Welker, Scandrick, Dion Jordan, others

Unfortunately that doesn’t really help Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon. A new drug policy could reduce his suspension but wouldn’t entirely eliminate it though.
