The 29-year-old Jones-Drew hoped to get his Raiders’ career off to a nice start, but the Raiders were defeated by the New York Jets 19-14 and Jones-Drew rushed for just 11 yards on nine carries.
However, there may be a reason for his lack of production.
It turns out Jones-Drew had a problem with his hand and according to Fallon Smith of Comcast Sports Net, he underwent a procedure to correct the injury and did not practice on Wednesday. Jones-Drew called it a “minor procedure” and was not expected to miss much time, if any.
According to Bill Williamson of ESPN.com, Jones-Drew has a bandage on his hand but is hopeful he can play Sunday when the Raiders host the Houston Texans.
The Raiders will need all hands on deck against the Texans – the Texans’ defense dominated the Washington Redskins in a 17-6 victory in week one. Although he has struggled as of late, Jones-Drew has had a very nice career, rushing for 8,082 yards and 68 touchdowns on 1,813 career carries.
