There have long been calls for the National Football League to change their drug policy. Among the issues that would be affected are the thresholds for positive tests and the penalties for positive tests for amphetamines.

This news has been familiar to people, for the most part, because of the possibility that suspended players like Josh Gordon and Wes Welker would be able to have their penalties reduced or wiped out completely by a new policy.

The NFL has a number of issues to address as far as disciplinary policies are concerned, and these drug policies are chief among them. As such, these proposed rule changes have been pushed through fairly quickly.

Reports on Thursday night indicate that the NFL Player’s Association is set to vote on a potential new policy on Friday afternoon. Per Ian Rapoport.

This decision has the potential to affect a number of teams and their prospects moving forward. It will be interesting to see what the results are on Friday and how soon we might see guys like Welker, Scandrick, and Jordan back in uniform. Gordon’s suspension is unique because of his track record, but this change might also salvage some of his season instead of him being suspended a full 16 games.
