Wild sign Nino Niederreiter to 3-year deal

The Minnesota Wild made a nice playoff push last season, and it is this season that the State of Hockey is expecting the biggest leap forward.  Having just brought in Thomas Vanek in the offseason, and already employing Zach Parise and Jason Pominville, the Wild are in a great spot.  Today, they agreed on a new contract with one of their young playmakers.

Minnesota came to terms and was able to sign forward Nino Niederreiter to a three-year contract on Thursday.

During the regular season last year, Niederreiter played to a tally of 36 points, a plus 12 rating, and 44 penalty minutes across 81 games.  He posted career highs across the board, and he tallied 175 hits for the Wild.

Niederreiter was brought to the Wild by way of the New York Islanders.  Originally the 5th overall pick in the 2010 NHL draft, Niederreiter was acquired in exchanged in return for the Wild’s 2013 3rd round selection and Cal Clutterbuck.

During the playoffs, Nino Niederreiter was a force for the Wild and that was apparent in nearly every game on the ice.  His presence was felt in a physical series with the Colorado Avalanche, and he was truly one of the unsung heroes of the Wild’s playoff run.

As a guy that now has had playoff experience and success with the NHL Minnesota Wild, he will be relied upon to lead the way for the young crop of talent headed to Minnesota.  Anchored by a handful of stars, and supplemented with budding talent, the Wild are definitely a team to watch this season.
