The Bruins gave up 469 total yards to the Memphis Tigers on Saturday night, just narrowly avoiding disaster with a 42-35 victory. In what came as a surprise by many, help may is on the way for the Bruins – 4-Star defensive end Takkarist McKinley has signed with the Bruins and will be eligible to play right away.
Barton Simmons of 24/7 Sports explains that McKinley could help the Bruins immediately.
"Takkarist McKinley, the No. 10 junior college prospect in the country according to 247Sports Composite in the class of 2015, has reclassified, signed a grant-in-aid, and is driving to Westwood on Tuesday to enroll and be eligible to play immediately.Due to a clerical mistake that took place during his senior year in high school, McKinley was incorrectly deemed an academic non-qualifier. Thanks to some due diligence by UCLA defensive line coach Angus McClure, UCLA caught the mistake, cleared McKinley through the NCAA, has admitted him into school and may have found a major pass-rush addition to its defense."
The 6’3, 250-pounder attended John F. Kennedy High School in Richmond, California. He is rated as the country’s number two-ranked junior college strong-side defensive end prospect, the top overall junior college prospect in the state of California and the 10th-best overall junior college prospect in the class of 2015 according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings.
McKinley also held offers from the Oklahoma Sooners, Southern Cal Trojans and Texas Longhorns, among others.
