Tampa Bay Rays starter Alex Cobb didn’t allow a hit through 7.1 innings against the New York Yankees, but late-game heroics from scrap-heap savior Chris Young gave the Yanks a walk-off win. The right-hander had kept New York hitless until the recently resurrected Young doubled to right centerfield, when Rays manager Joe Maddon replaced Cobb with righty Brad Boxberger, who allowed Young to score when the next batter, pinch-hitter Martin Prado, homered.

Cobb finished the game allowing one hit, one earned run, and walking two. The right-handed starter struck out four in what turned out to be a bitter loss for the Rays, and a surprising turnaround for the still-alive Yankees. Yunel Escobar was most of the Rays offense, homering twice and driving in four.
The Yankees didn’t do much until late, but Young ended up winning the game on a three-run home run off Rays closer Jake McGee with one out in the bottom of the ninth. Young was released by the cross-town New York Mets earlier this season, and has seen a resurgence with the Yankees, albeit only in six games. Young slashed .205/.283/.346 with eight home runs in 254 at bats with the Mets this year, his two home runs with the Yankees put his season total at 10.
