John Holdzkom is a 6-foot-7 righty for the Pittsburgh Pirates who is reputed to be the only pitcher currently in MLB who throws a good old fashioned palmball.

More from MLB

In a short period of time, the lanky, scruffy, palmball-chucking Holdzkom has become something of a folk hero. His combination of freaky appearance, odd-ball pitching style and plucky guy-who-came-out-of-nowhere backstory seems to work for people.

Holdzkom also happens to look a lot like late night talk show host Seth Meyers. At least that’s what people say.

Meyers thinks Holdzkom resembles a cross between himself and Jerry Seinfeld.

The Pittsburgh Pirates, being a baseball team with a major league level PR department, quickly jumped on this John Holdzkom-Seth Meyers thing and made sure that Meyers knew he was welcome to pop in at PNC Park for a ball game if he happened to be passing through Pittsburgh in the near future.

Wouldn’t you know it, Seth Meyers found a reason to be in Pittsburgh Friday night. Because free stuff.

I hope no one gets confused and thinks Meyers really is Holdzkom. But wait, that won’t happen, cause Meyers only sort of looks like Holdzkom plus he’s not 6-7 plus I’m guessing he doesn’t have a palmball in his repertoire.

But it’s cute anyway.
