The Seattle Seahawks defense is seemingly built from the outside in. “The Legion of Boom” — their secondary — appears to be what holds them together. After a second glance, however, the linebackers are an unheralded group for the Seahawks. Their foundation and anchor is middle linebacker Bobby Wagner.

The 24-year-old out of Utah State has gone under the radar for most non-Seattle fans. But CBSSports’ Pete Prisco has brought him to everyone’ attention. He could soon be the Seahawks’ next great defender. In fact, he could be their best.

Wagner has played a total of 29 regular season games since entering the league two years ago as a 2012 second round draft pick. Since then, he has developed what was originally evaluated as raw athleticism. Now, he’s looking like a savvy veteran. He can run sideline to sideline while also reading the offensive keys. He can tackle in space and handle a running back like Packers’ James Starks in man-to-man coverage.

Without a doubt, there’s the element of surrounding cast. Wagner is sort of like the Russell Wilson of middle linebackers. He’s reaping the benefits of the talented players and coordinators around him — and because of that, he won’t get the credit he deserves. Just because they get help, it doesn’t mean that both Wilson and Wagner aren’t incredibly talented. They are, and they are already developing into two of the team’s most important players.

In his article, Prisco uses images and GIFs to illustrate Wagner’s talents. Be sure to check it out.
