It has been a dark week for the NFL as it’s been one that has seen two of the league’s best and most well known stars become nothing short of monsters off the field. After Ray Rice dominated headlines all week long following the release of an even more graphic video of him beating his wife Janay in an elevator, Adrian Peterson has found himself embroiled in a child abuse scandal that is shocking the entire league.

More from Minnesota Vikings

Late on Friday afternoon, news came out that Peterson had a warrant out for his arrest following a doctor turning him in for beating his child with a switch. Peterson hasn’t spoken about the incident but the Vikings have reacted strongly, deactivating him for Sunday’s game against the Patriots.

According to the Star-Tribune, Peterson is likely to face further punishment on Monday with the league likely getting involved at that point.

"The league did not respond to a request for a statement. Peterson’s deactivation is effective for Sunday’s game, and it’s likely the league or the team will take action Monday."

It’s hard to say what will happen with Peterson but it’sentirely possible that Peterson is facing a long suspension for this incident. Not all of the facts are known but a doctor turned Peterson in for abusing his child, which may be enough for Roger Goodell to throw the book at Peterson and suspend him for a very long time.
