The Denver Broncos thought they were getting a dose of good news when the NFL Player’s Association voted and accepted the NFL’s new drug policy. It looked like wide receiver Wes Welker, who is currently serving a four-game suspension for amphetamines, was going to be able to play on Sunday.

“The Board of Player Representatives gave the NFLPA authority to complete new drug policies with the League consistent with detailed term sheets the players reviewed,” The player’s association said in statement. “We hope to have final agreements, including effective date for players with adjusted discipline, very soon.”

The process wasn’t complete, and the deadline came and went without the new deal being agreed upon. That means Welker will have to sit out another game before he can return to the Broncos line up.
