The new Formula E circuit – electric cars people; they’re the future – got off to a rousing start in Beijing Saturday.

On the last lap of the race, former Formula One driver Nick Heidfeld gets spun out by Nico Prost and crashes the crap out of his vehicle.
After a few tense moments, Heidfeld climbs out of his ruined car and heads straight for Nico Prost, who was coming out to see if he was okay.
There is a heated conversation between the two men, but no punches are thrown.
Important thing here is that Heidfeld is okay. Second important thing here, the broken electric car did not burst into flames as I’ve heard electric cars sometimes do when they crash.
Then again, gasoline-powered cars sometimes burst into flames when they crash too. So I guess electric cars aren’t any more dangerous.
The really key thing here is that electric car racing appears to be viable as a sport. I can’t see any difference between electric car racing and regular car racing.
Either way, it’s a bunch of cars being driven around in circles by a bunch of crazy dudes. Fans want to see crashes and electric cars crash just as easy as non-electric ones.
And the drivers get just as ornery when they think another driver has wiped them out on purpose or through being a dumb ass.
So, this will work as a sport. Unless the stench of burning fuel is just that important to the whole experience. Maybe they can add it in some kind of spray form.
