Tennessee vs Oklahoma final score: Sooners top Vols 34-10
By Mike Dyce
Oklahoma Sooners head coach Bob Stoops loves to talk about the SEC, namely how they’re not as great as they think they are. Stoops backed up his talk knocking off Alabama in the Sugar Bowl last season, and this year they have the Tennessee Volunteers coming to Norman.
On their first possession the Sooners were held to a field goal. Then Oklahoma’s Quentin Hayes sacked Tennessee quarterback Justin Worley, forcing the fumble, and Hayes got up and recovered the fumble as well.
The Oklahoma took over on their own 46 yard line, and needed a big reception from K.J. Young to avoid a three-and-out. That 18-yard reception sparked the drive and the Sooners scored three plays later on a 23-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Knight to Keith Ford.
The Oklahoma offensive onslaught continued, though not necessarily dominantly. The Sooners settled for another field goal to take a 13-0 lead in the game.
The Vols and Sooners traded punts to start the second half. It was the next Vols drive where they began to find their groove. On second and 12 from the Oklahoma 40 yard line, Worley found Josh Smith for the big touchdown.
On the ensuing drive, the Volunteers held the Sooners to a three-and-out and took over down 13-7. It took Oklahoma two more drives to threaten. With less than two minutes left in the half, the Sooners capped off an 81-yard drive with an 11-yard touchdown run from Keith Ford.
The Sooners wasted no time picking up where they left off. They marched 75 yards down the field on their first possession of the second half to score another touchdown and further extend their lead. The scoring play was a read-option with quarterback Trevor Knight running out wide before cutting up the field for a five-yard touchdown run.
The Volunteers added another field goal at the end of the third quarter and the Sooners added a touchdown in the fourth quarter to end the scoring in the game.
