Not all wins are created equal; so it was that Oakland’s win over the Seattle Mariners on Saturday night packed a little bit more meaning. The A’s need to win in some big spots to get themselves back on track as the regular season winds down. With that in mind, Oakland came through with a huge win by beating the Seattle Mariners 3-2 in extra innings.
Starting pitcher Sonny Gray, who worked eight outstanding innings on Saturday night in his team’s win, was ready to admit that it was an especially important game. As passed along by Susan Slusser:
With the Athletics having reclaimed the top AL wild card spot for now, these two teams will meet for the final time on Sunday at Safeco Field. Jon Lester will start for Oakland opposite Chris Young for the Mariners.
