Daily fantasy football: Fanduel Week 2 Lineup for September 14th

FanDuel is a fast growing one-week fantasy game that has created some recent buzz in the media. Every time I have listened to something or just simply turned on my television, I hear a FanDuel add playing.

Last week, I decided to see what all the buzz was about and I actually had fun just playing in the free league. So this week I am looking to step up the stakes. In upping the stakes, I thought since I was going to take it seriously, that I should submit some sort of advice. Just the general things, like best weekly values and who I ended up picking.

More from Fantasy Football

If this is the first time you are hearing about FanDuel then I suggest you go check it out. Not meaning to call out ESPN, but their salary cap values for their player challenge, really doesn’t challenge you to pick other players. FanDuel does. You get $60,000 dollars to spend and you have to keep your team at or under that value.

FanDuel Lineup: QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, K, DEF

Let’s give this a shot.

Quarterbacks:

Sep 7, 2014; Baltimore, MD, USA; Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton (14) throws prior to the game against the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium. Cincinnati Bengals defeated Baltimore Ravens 23-16. Mandatory Credit: Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Scoring System: The scoring system is for Quarterbacks is pretty standard. You get 0.04 points for each pass yard, you get 4 points for passing touchdown, 6 points for a rushing touchdown and interceptions are only worth one.

Strategy: Last week I correctly predicted 7 of the top 12 scoring quarterbacks for week 1. So quarterback is a pretty safe position, and a lot of people are going to go with the names they know and feel comfortable with, like a Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, or even Tom Brady. My goal is to always try and find the great value at this position due to it’s depth.

Two players are being ranked outside the of top 10 that could have really good weeks because of their match-ups. The first is Andy Dalton, worth $7,800 out of your $60,000 dollars, Dalton has been a solid fantasy play over his last 12 games. Dalton has scored multiple touchdowns and/or thrown for 300-yards plus in 11 of his last 12 games. In his last 12 games his numbers would equal out to an average of 24 fantasy points a week in FanDuel scoring.

The other player is Jake Locker, who is going against the Dallas Cowboys this week. Locker is worth $7,400 out of your $60,000 dollars, and Locker doesn’t really have the stats to back this call up. He looked great in the season opener against the depleted Kansas City defense. Locker has four multiple touchdown games in his last eight games.

My pick: Andy Dalton, Cincinnati Bengals, $7,800

Running Backs:

Jan 5, 2014; Cincinnati, OH, USA; Cincinnati Bengals running back Gio Bernard (25) runs the ball during the second quarter against the San Diego Chargers during the AFC wild card playoff football game at Paul Brown Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Pat Lovell-USA TODAY Sports

Scoring: 0.5 Points per reception, 6 Points for rushing touchdown, 0.1 for each receiving and rushing yard

Strategy: Weekly fantasy games is awesome with running backs because you don’t have to  worry about the wear and tear and the injury risk. Even if they manage to get hurt, it’s only for one week and you can scrap it for the next week. So who are you targeting?

There are five running backs that I am looking at to fill into two spots. The five are Arian Foster ($8,400), Montee Ball ($8,100), Giovani Bernard ($7,800), Knowshon Moreno ($7,000), and Chris Johnson ($7,000). Two cheaper players that I love are Mark Ingram ($5,900), and Isaiah Crowell ($5,100). Both of them have shown that they’ve won their teams goal line jobs with two week one touchdowns. They really only have value if they score, so it’s a risk.

The two guys I love above the rest are Giovani Bernard ($7,800) and Montee Ball ($8,100) because their match-ups are incredible. We just witnessed a week where the Chiefs managed to lose one of their stars on defense in Derrick Johnson. They are going to be hurting in the middle of that defense and you better believe Peyton Manning is going to take advantage of that. I think the Broncos get up early and big, and then kill the clock with Ball.  Giovani Bernard is a great start this week, especially in these formats because he can catch the football.

My Picks: Giovani Bernard ($7,800) and Montee Ball ($8,100); Total: $15,900

Wide Receivers:

Sep 7, 2014; Philadelphia, PA, USA; Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin (18) runs into the end zone on a 68-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles defeated the Jaguars, 34-17. Mandatory Credit: Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Scoring: 0.5 Points per reception, 0.1 points per yard, and 6 points for a receiving touchdown

Strategy: Wide Receivers with points per receptions changes a lot of factors. For example, I like Randall Cobb a lot more than his teammate Jordy Nelson. There were a lot of receivers that I was considering with this format. Kelvin Benjamin ($6,600), Cordarrelle Patterson ($7,100), Randall Cobb ($7,600), Roddy White ($7,200), Emmanuel Sanders ($6,900), Jeremy Maclin ($6,300), T.Y. Hilton ($6,400) and Brandin Cooks ($6,300).

A couple guys I like further down the list? Marqise Lee ($5,400), and if he plays Aaron Dobson ($4,900).

I’m a normal person who loves receivers who get a lot of targets. In the last game, Maclin saw 11 targets, Patterson saw 5 targets but also had 3 carries, and Cobb had 9 targets on opening night. Those will be the three people that I will be going with for that reason.

My Picks: Randall Cobb ($7,600); Cordarrelle Patterson ($7,100); Jeremy Maclin ($6,300); Total: $21,000

Tight Ends:

Aug 16, 2014; Minneapolis, MN, USA; Minnesota Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph (82) catches a pass for a touchdown in the second quarter against the Arizona Cardinals at TCF Bank Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

Scoring: 0.5 Points per reception, 0.1 points per yard, and 6 points for a receiving touchdown

Strategy: Of course you want the guys who are going to score some touchdowns. It’s hard to bet against the top four guys at the position this week (Vernon Davis, Julius Thomas, Rob Gronkowski, and Jimmy Graham), but likely you don’t have the money for those guys, at least I didn’t.

A couple guys I like outside of the top four from this position are Delanie Walker ($5,000),  Zach Etrz ($5,600) and Kyle Rudolph ($5,500).

Delanie Walker is a great cheap start this week because of the two touchdowns that the Cowboys allowed to Vernon Davis last week. Zach Ertz is playing the Colts and they gave up three touchdowns to Julius Thomas last week. Although the Patriots didn’t get beat by the tight end last week, there was one instance where the Dolphins had a tight end drop an open touchdown. Rudolph wouldn’t have dropped it.

If you want a deeper guy to take a chance on, look at Travis Kelce. Kelce’s value is $4,600 dollars, because he played less than 20 snaps last week. Andy Reid said he’d like him to play more. It’s a complete flyer, in what could be a good match-up.

My pick: Kyle Rudolph ($5,500)

Defense and Kickers:

Aug 16, 2014; Tampa, FL, USA; Tampa Bay Buccaneers outside linebacker Lavonte David (54) works out prior to the game against the Miami Dolphins at Raymond James Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Scoring: It’s really a basic scoring system for both kickers and defense.

Strategy: My goal when picking a defense is find someone who is opportunistic. I like defenses that have the ability to go off and score touchdowns. I only have one defense I really even wanted this week but I’ll list a couple.

The defense I love this week is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ($4,900). I think they are a safe and opportunistic defense. As you know, Sam Bradford is out, and now backup quarterback Shaun Hill is banged up. They could be going with third stringer Austin Davis at quarterback on Sunday, which always equals a good matchup.

Other good possibilities are the San Diego Chargers ($4,900) and Miami Dolphins ($5,000). A team worth the reach is the San Francisco 49ers ($5,700). The Bears might be without Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery, which would mean Jay Cutler is going to be in for a rough night.

If you are desperate, the Jacksonville Jaguars ($4,600) might be a good option. They have a pass rush and the Redskins offensive line is below average. Jacksonville might be able to get pressure on Robert Griffin III and force some turnovers.

The kickers that I like are Mike Nugent ($5,200), Cody Parkey ($4,900), and Nick Folk ($4,800).

My pick: Cody Parkey ($4,900); Tampa Bay Buccaneers ($4,900)

My Final Lineup:
