The Tennessee Titans are apologizing for their choice of pre-game warm-up music after playing “Friday Night Remix,” a mix of a variety of rap artists about 35 minutes before kicking off their game at LP Field Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.

The worst of the lyrics were obscured, but the song’s themes could be considered questionable in the wake of the NFL’s recent developments involving domestic violence.

A Titans executive issued a statement saying the song should have been removed from the play list.

"“We review everything we play on game days and play radio versions, but clearly with the subject matter included, the song should have been eliminated from the play list,” said Don MacLachlan, the Titans’ executive vice president of administration and facilities. (per ESPN.com)"

The league is dealing with a trio of domestic violence-related issues. Besides the Ray Rice controversy, Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy and San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Ray McDonald are currently facing domestic violence charges.

Hardy was deactivated by the Panthers on Sunday, while the 49ers plan to have McDonald active Sunday night against the Chicago Bears.

Commissioner Roger Goodell canceled a planned appearance at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., where the 49ers are hosting their first regular-season game in the new facility.

“Friday Night Remix,” with performances by Piles, Lil Boosie, Woop, D. Blake, T. Pain, Mike Smiff and Rick Ross, includes a passage:

"“Hit it with the left, hit it with the right, I’m a knock the p**** out like fight night. Beat it with the left, beat it with the right, I’m a knock the p**** out like fight night.”"

So, yeah, probably not the most tasteful choice in the current climate, to be sure.
