If you are looking at the group of young pitchers, starter Jacob deGrom would be near the top of the list. All the 26-year-old has done is go 8-6 this season with a 2.62 ERA in 20 starts. He has placed himself firmly in the conversation for National League Rookie of the Year, and on Monday, he added a historic accomplishment to the list.
Facing the Miami Marlins, deGrom retired the first eight hitters of the game via strikeout. That ties a modern record.
