After seeing the Green Bay Packers not dare to throw his way, Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman got the challenge he was looking for in Week 2. Phillip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers weren’t afraid to go right at Sherman and it didn’t go all that well for the trash-talking Sherman.

Rivers’ main target against Sherman was wide receiver Keenan Allen, who ended up with five receptions for 55 yards in the Chargers’ 30-21 win over the Seahawks.

After the win, Allen had words for Sherman, calling him ‘just another guy’ and much more. Consider Allen unimpressed with what Sherman put on the field.

“He’s just a normal guy,” Allen said of Sherman, via ESPN.com. “We can go at him. We took some shots at him. We are not going to shy away from him. He’s not really a shutdown corner. We definitely wanted to come out and show we could go any way we wanted to and that we were in control of the game.”

Sherman had his usually strong worded reaction to that statement and others made by the Chargers following the game:

Nevermind getting the details correct for Sherman, clearly the Chargers got under Sherman’s skin following the results of targeting him.

Despite that personal battle, Allen and Sherman had very little to do with the outcome of the game. It was instead Rivers and tight end Antonio Gates that made the biggest difference. The two hooked up for seven receptions for 96 yards and three touchdowns.

Allen’s personal battle with Sherman may have helped a bit because the Chargers didn’t cut the field in half by avoiding Sherman’s side of the field.
