The Minnesota Vikings, who reinstated Adrian Peterson on Monday and indicated he will play in Week 3, said in a statement Monday night they were aware of a second child-abuse allegation against their All-Pro running back.

The Vikings released a two-sentence statement on their official website Monday night:

"As part of the information we have gathered throughout this process, we were made aware of an allegation from 2013 in which authorities took no action against Adrian. We will defer any further questions to Adrian’s attorney, Rusty Hardin."

Peterson was inactive for Sunday’s 30-7 loss to the New England Patriots at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis after the running back was indicted Friday by a Texas grand jury on charges of reckless or negligent injury to a child.

Peterson released a statement Monday apologizing for the incident and his attorney claimed the newest allegation from 2013 is “simply not true.”

Last November, the club released cornerback A.J. Jefferson less than 24 hours after he was arrested for probable cause for domestic assault.

Then again, Jefferson never rushed for 2,000 yards in a season, nor was he responsible for a large chunk of (a) the Vikings salary cap or (b) the Vikings offense.

The fallout from the Peterson incident continued for the Vikings on Monday as Radisson announced it was suspending its sponsorship agreement with the team.
