The Minnesota Vikings came crashing back to reality on Sunday afternoon as they New England Patriots outscored their opponent 30-0 following the opening drive of the game.

More from Minnesota Vikings

Part of the headache for Vikings fans watching the game is a familiar one — quarterback play. Minnesota hasn’t had consistent quarterback play since Brett Favre’s last good season in the NFL back in 2009 and since then it’s been a plethora of crappy quarterbacking. From Joe Webb to Christian Ponder, Josh Freeman and now Matt Cassel, the Vikings just seemed cursed to have no one talented under center.

Mike Zimmer isn’t going to crack under the pressure though and is giving Cassel some slack. Following the 30-7 loss to the Patriots, Zimmer noted that Cassel would start Week 3 against the New Orleans Saints.

Per ESPN.com:

"Zimmer said Cassel will start next Sunday in New Orleans despite throwing four interceptions in the Vikings’ 30-7 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday."

Cassel’s leash is getting shorter though, as fans in Minnesota are in the familiar rut of calling for the backup quarterback to start. That’s the curse of being a Vikings fan but it’s also the torture of being the quarterback under center for the purple and gold.
