New York Mets right-hander Jacob deGrom is getting a lot of support in the National League Rookie of the Year race.
CBSSports.com’s Jon Heyman pointed out on Monday that deGrom’s numbers through his first 20 career starts are better than those posted by Mets legends Dwight Gooden and Tom Seaver.
And now deGrom is getting support from within the New York Mets’ organization, according to Matt Dunn of SNY, via Twitter:

deGrom tied a major-league record Monday night when he struck out the first eight batters against the Miami Marlins before allowing a single to opposing pitcher Jarred Cosart.

deGrom went into Monday’s start with an 8-6 record and a 2.62 ERA with a 1.147 WHIP in 20 starts over 127.1 innings, striking out 121.
His ERA would be fifth-best in the National League if he had enough innings to qualify for the league lead and his WHIP would be ninth.
Other contenders for the top rookie honor in the NL include Cincinnati Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton, considered to be the favorite, while Joe Panik of the San Francisco Giants, Kolten Wong of the St. Louis Cardinals and Ken Giles of the Philadelphia Phillies have also had their moments.
Hamilton is hitting .259/.297/.368 in 144 games entering play Monday, with 72 runs, 25 doubles, eight triples, six homers, 48 RBI and 56 stolen bases. But he also leads the NL, having been caught stealing 22 times.
