It can be hard to know how exactly to assess the overall performance from the New York Mets this season.

More from MLB

On the one hand, the Mets could call their season a success because they remained on the fringe of the playoff standings for much of the summer. They were a tough out for most of their opponents despite an offense that lacked punch at times and a roster that could still use upgrades in multiple spots.

On the other hand, the Mets are trying to appease a fan base that is tired of losing and is no longer willing to accept the hopeful promises of the future if the team finishes below .500 once again.

In the context of that mixed bag of results, it sounds like the Mets will keep their leadership structure in place to start the 2015 season. According to Andy Martino of the New York Daily News, general manager Sandy Alderson and manager Terry Collins are both expected to be brought back next season:

"The Mets plan to make an announcement about both Terry Collins’ and Sandy Alderson’s status at the end of this season, with the expectation that the manager and GM will return, according to multiple sources familiar with the situation……On Monday, sources said that a single news conference at the end of the season announcing Alderson and Collins’ return is a possibility — but stressed that no details have been finalized. It’s not as if extensions have been signed, and are awaiting announcements; rather, decisions and negotiations lie ahead. But obviously, both men now appear almost certain to return."

The Mets have still left the door open to change course, but as they look ahead to an intriguing 2015 season it looks like they will have the same GM and manager in their same positions.
