The Green Bay Packers escaped Lambeau Field yesterday with a tough 31-24 victory over a surprisingly battle-tested New York Jets team that many expected would be blown out by Aaron Rodgers and the Packers.

At one point in the game, the Packers were down by 18 and seemingly on the brink of starting the 2014 NFL season 0-2. So how did they rebound and end up defeating the Jets by a touchdown? According to Aaron Rodgers and head coach Mike McCarthy, the victory was all about their team’s grit.
“They have grit,” McCarthy told Packers media about his players after the game. “I really like the character and makeup of our team. We improved as a team today.”
Rodgers, who threw for 346 yards and three touchdowns, noted that his team started off very poorly, but rebounding so well showed that his team can accomplish anything.
“We just didn’t bring a lot of energy to the game,” Rodgers said candidly. “It was a bad start. We didn’t put anything together until the second quarter, when we showed some grit and got things rolling. Today is a character building win for us.”
Many teams would have faltered after being down so much early on, but the Packers win yesterday will build momentum as the team looks forward to facing off against all three of their NFC North rivals in the next three successive weeks.
“Today is a character building win for us,” Rodgers noted. We will find out how the Packers grit holds up against the Detroit Lions next weekend at Ford Field.
