The defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks took their legion of boom on the road yesterday as they took on the San Diego Chargers at Qualcomm Stadium. In the end, the Seahawks fell to 1-1 as the brutally hot weather played into the hands of the Chargers offense who was able to put up 30 points against the vaunted Seahawks defense.

Future first ballot Hall of Famer Antonio Gates had himself a field day for the Chargers, racking up three touchdowns on 7 receptions for 96 yards. Prior to Sunday’s meeting with the Seahawks, everyone and their mother warned about starting Antonio Gates in fantasy football, as the experts were wary of the Seahawks defense. Boy were they wrong.

In the end, Philip Rivers and Gates stole the show as the defeated the Super Bowl champions 30-21. After the game, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll told Seahawks media that “it was a great job by Philip and the offense, and Antonio Gates just dominated today.”

Although his team fell short yesterday, Carroll was happy with the grit his team exuded during the waning moments of the game. “I like the way we fought in this thing,” Caroll said poignantly. “We had a chance to get to win the football game, we just couldn’t get it done.”

The Seahawks schedule does not get any easier next week as they return home to face off against the team they defeated in last year’s Super Bowl, the Denver Broncos. You can bet that Peyton Manning and company want some revenge heading into next week’s game, so the Seahawks need to put on their best performance to avoid sliding to 1-2.
