Afterwords, the Chargers’ fiery quarterback Philip Rivers got way ahead of himself in describing just how well his receiving corps played against the Legion of Boom.
Rivers said on NFL Network after the game that he thinks Keenan Allen matches up well against Richard Sherman.
"“He’s an awesome corner. But there were certain things where we felt Keenan matched up well against him. Keenan’s great off the press and Keenan is really great off the top of his breaks. I didn’t get carried away, but when the plays presented themselves we were confident to go over there, and Keenan made the plays when we did.”"
This sort of comment might have been more juicy had it been coming from Colin Kaepernick or some other NFC team likely to see the Seahawks more than once a season, but coming from the Chargers it’s almost like an out-of-towner making snide comments about the local tavern.
Sherman took issue to the comments that he was exposed, but Keenan Allen didn’t have that great of a day statistically. Still, catching a handful of passes against the best cornerback in the NFL is an impressive feat, and Rivers’ confidence in his young receiver is only growing.
