Fashion commentary has become part and parcel of the NBA watching experience — particularly for fans of Russell Westbrook, J.R. Smith and Nick Young, who last week took New York Fashion Week by storm. These guys are stylish, even if some of the styles leave you scratching your head or chuckling at the audacity. That’s not to begrudge anyone their sartorial choices; do you, NBA players. Hell, I wish I had the confidence to attempt even half the outfits they pull off with gusto and aplomb. Though for everyone’s sake, it’s probably best that I don’t.
While the average NBA fan might be a bit befuddled by the NBA’s New Clothes, having an eye for the amazing is paying off in critical recognition for Westbrook, Smith and Young (who might want to consider starting their own fashion consulting service/paralegal business with a group name like that). All three showed up in GQ’s “10 Best-Dressed Men of New York Fashion Week.”
Westbrook came in at number 10; Smith was third; and Mr. Swaggy P took home the gold as the best-dressed man in New York last week.
At this rate, we’re going to have to rename the site “Nick Young Land” in order to properly honor the man who’s quickly becoming the patron saint of TFB.
