Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton got us up-to-date on his recovery from getting hit in the face by a pitch last week.

A description of his progress would not have been enough so he posted a handy visual aid on his Instagram.
Before: GAAAAAAH.
After: Oh. Okay. Not so bad.
So, it doesn’t appear Stanton will have too much permanent physical scarring as a result of having a flying baseball mash his upper lip against his teeth, creating a hole that looks like he was shot in the face with a BB gun.
He’ll be fine aesthetically but we don’t yet know about the underlying psychological issues that could result from getting hit in the mouth while batting.
Will Stanton be the same hitter when he steps in there again? It’s not an unfair question. Batters in the past have been terribly affected by getting hit.
Believe it or not, it’s not the easiest thing in the world to climb into the box again and face down 95 MPH fastballs after you’ve had your face blown up by a pitch.
Stanton is a big strong dude physically but it remains to be seen if he has the psychological resilience to get back in there and resume his career.
