The Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates were idle on Monday night, enjoying a precious day off in the final weeks of the 2014 regular season. What’s more, it turns out that both teams will able to gain ground in the standings without even playing a game.

More from Atlanta Braves

Both the San Francisco Giants and the Atlanta Braves lost on Monday night. From Atlanta’s perspective, we cannot help but ask the simple question: are the Braves done?

This was their fifth straight loss, dropping their record to the .500 mark at 75-75. With more games left in their series against the Washington Nationals, that leaves a very distinct possibility that Atlanta’s record will dip below .500 this week. If that is the case, it is hard to envision this team being able to put things together to make a run at a National League Wild Card spot.

That reality appears to be setting in with the Braves as well, as both Freddie Freeman and manager Fredi Gonzalez lost their cool and were ejected from the team’s 4-2 loss to Stephen Strasburg and the Nationals.

The Braves still have time, but they better turn things around in a hurry. Otherwise, this looks like it is going to be a three-team race. Here’s where things stand after Monday night’s action:

  1. San Francisco Giants – 82-68, +2.5 WCGB
  2. Pittsburgh Pirates – 79-70, — WCGB
  3. Milwaukee Brewers – 78-72, 1.5 WCGB
  4. Atlanta Braves – 75-75, 4.5 WCGB
  5. Miami Marlins – 73-76, 6.0 WCGB
