Yankees’ Martin Prado out for rest of year after appendectomy
By Dan Zinski
The Yankees still can’t get a break when it comes to health. Tuesday the injury-beset team learned that they will be without Martin Prado for the rest of the season after the outfielder was forced to have his appendix removed.

Brian Cashman explained what happened (via New York Post):
"“He started complaining [Monday] and after the game it got worse,’’ general manager Brian Cashman said of Prado, who had two of the Yankees’ six hits in a 1-0 loss to the Rays on Monday night at Tropicana Field. “He went to the hospital after the game and had the surgery [Tuesday morning].’’"
Prado had been hitting .316 with seven homers since being acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks in what looked at the time like a minor move.
That “minor move” netted the Yankees the man who has been arguably their most productive offensive player over the past few weeks. With the team barely hanging on to their playoff hopes, the last thing they could afford was to lose Prado.
So of course they lost Prado. Because that’s how it is for the 2014 Yankees.
Thanks for playing, Yankees. At least you get to come back next year with all these players healthy. And no Derek Jeter farewell tour driving everyone nuts.
