ESPN College Football Challenge picks for week 4
By Mike Marteny
For those of you that don’t know, ESPN College Football Challenge is the closest you can get to college fantasy football on ESPN. You get to comprise a roster of two quarterbacks, two runnings backs, two wide receivers, a team kicker, and a team defense. The scoring is very similar to NFL scoring.

Last week, Navy held out Kennan Reynolds for an undisclosed reason, so I switched to Connor Halliday. That worked out pretty well. Also, James Conner and Da’Ron Brown had good games, so it was a pretty good week. The only real miss was on Jay Ajayi. Well, and Brett Hundley, but no one could have expected that he would play less than a quarter. That’s just bad luck!

Quarterbacks:
Rakeem Cato, Marshall: I’m staying away from a 60% owned Mariota against Washington State. I am also staying away from top scorer Taysom Hill against a tough Virginia defense. I’m hoping I can find just as many if not more points elsewhere. Cato seems to be a good option. He had a great game against Ohio, and now gets an even worse Akron team.
C.J. Brown, Maryland: He has been one of the more consistent scorers this year. I like him in a Syracuse game which could become a shootout.
Running Backs:
Alex Collins, Arkansas: Chances are the Razorbacks will be running the game out against NIU as well. If nothing else, they will at least want to keep the ball away from the Huskies offense. Either way, it looks like another big game for Collins. The only thing that worries me a little is how many carries – or touchdowns – that Jonathan Williams will get. I’m tempted to play them both!
Mike Davis, South Carolina: Vanderbilt is easily the worst team in the SEC. Davis should get plenty of carries in this one.
Wide Receivers:
Nelson Spruce, Colorado: He has been consistent at a very inconsistent position. That’s good enough for me!
Sterling Shepard, Oklahoma: The Mountaineers allowed some big plays to Maryland. Shepard will be the recipient of those for the Sooners.
Kickers:
Alabama: The game with Florida could produce more field goals than touchdowns.
Defense:
Penn State: They consistently rack up 20+ points, and they get a pretty bad UMass team this week.
