Omer Asik ‘just wants to rebound and play defense’ and that’s cool
By Wes Goldberg
Want to know how to make Anthony Davis smile like the Kool-Aid man?
Tell him Omer Asik wants to do all the dirty work for him. According to New Orleans Pelicans writer Jim Eichenhofer, that’s all the newly-acquired Asik wants to do.
First of all, can we really categorize the Kool-Aid creature as a “man?” Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below. No, for real.

Secondly, the basketball stuff. The New Orleans Pelicans made one of the best moves of the offseason when they acquired Asik to pair with Davis. Davis is a rising star in this league and a top-notch defender and rebounder in his own right, but he can’t do it all himself without sacrificing on the offensive end.
During the FIBA World Cup, we saw how well Davis can perform on offense when paired with another quality big man in DeMarcus Cousins. Asik is just as good a rebounder and a much better defender than Cousins, and complements Davis well.
Last season, Asik wasn’t used properly with the Houston Rockets. For the beginning of the season, he was paired with Dwight Howard to give the Rockets a strong defensive front court that had zero chemistry offensively.
Now with the Pelicans, Asik already seems much more comfortable with his role. He and Davis give New Orleans a promising, young front court that should help Davis make the leap into the elite category this season.
