While the sports world is hypnotized by just how out of hand things have gotten with violence off the field involving NFL players, there has been movement on how much drugs players off the field can take and still be allowed to play the game each week.

After a slew of suspensions due to drug use off the field — most recently involving Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Weker — the NFL and NFLPA have finally agreed on a new drug policy that will kick in starting immediately.

According to Ian Rapoport from NFL Network, the two sides have ironed out whatever problems they had with the previous proposal and an official agreement is expected to be announced in the near future.

The news is being buried by the ongoing situation with Adrian Peterson and the child abuse charges being brought against him, but this is significant news that affects every single player in the league.

Most immediately, the decision affects Wes Welker, Orland Scandrick and Josh Gordon who will all have their suspensions reduced significantly. Welker and Scandrick will return to action this Sunday as a result of the suspensions being lifted while Gordon will have to wait another 8 weeks to play again as his year-long ban was only reduced to 10 games in total.
