The theme of this week’s RB to start list is change.  Coming into the season there were a clear cut elite threesome that dominated #1 overall picks.  There may have been some debate and controversy over who was number one, number two, and number three, but almost everyone agreed that those three were the top three. How quickly things in the running back world change–including a brand new #1 overall RB for this week who wasn’t even in the top-5 discussion on draft day.

One of those three was Adrian Peterson who is likely to not play another down this season.  Another was Jammal Charles who is sidelined with a high-ankle sprain, and the third was LeSean McCoy who hasn’t even been the best back on his own team so far this season.  When you add up the struggles of those three and add in plenty of other injuries to starters, emerging sleepers, and more suspensions, it’s hard to keep up with all the shifting sands of setting your lineup.

Heading into week 3, here are the top 25 running backs to start with the top five on this slide and the next two groups of 10 on the following slides:

DeMarco Murray. 1. player. 123. Murray leads the way after racking up two huge weeks against the 49ers and the Titans.  In those contests, he has run for 195 yards total with a touchdown in each game.  Dallas seems committed to the run which should pay huge dividends against a Rams team that has allowed four rushing TD’s in two weeks and are averaging the third-most rushing yards per game allowed in the NFL.  Murray’s on a roll and in a great matchup, so he should be in your lineup regardless of who else you have as we go into week 3. . Dallas Cowboys. Week 3 @ Rams

Philadelphia Eagles. Week 3 vs Redskins. LeSean McCoy. 2. player. 54. McCoy has struggled a bit but has still been a top 10 running back in the early going this season.  He has over 70 yards rushing in both games and added some quality receiving yards as well.  He hasn’t exploded for the big plays like his teammate Darren Sproles, but he still has been productive while offering the potential of a breakout game against a weak Redskins run defense.

10. Rolling the dice with Foster in the first round has paid off so far this season.  He’s carrying a huge workload, but so far his body is holding up and as long as it does he’s an unquestioned RB1.. Houston Texans. Week 3 @ Giants. Arian Foster. 3. player

Bernard continues to be a dual threat which thrills PPR owners and his contributions of 100+ all-purpose yards each week lock him in as a RB1 in all formats.  . Cincinnati Bengals. Week 3 vs Titans. Giovani Bernard. 4. player. 56

player. 36. Lynch struggled last week with a reported back issue and was limited to just 36 yards on six carries. He’s officially questionable and not practicing yet this week, but I think he’ll take the field and be a solid contributor in this week’s Super Bowl rematch. . Seattle Seahawks. Week 3 vs Broncos. Marshawn Lynch. 5
