Bobby Ryan hopes Ottawa Senators name a captain
By Cory Buck
The Ottawa Senators stand on the cusp of another season in flux thanks to the team having traded last year’s captain and top-scoring forward Jason Spezza. They have yet to name a new captain, but if star winger Bobby Ryan has a say in the matter, that C will go on someone’s sweater. Ryan spoke candidly of his thoughts on the issue via the team’s website.

"I’m a big believer that you should. I think at the same time you’ve had two captains in two years leave and you don’t want that kind of thing to happen a third time or whatever that may be. You want to make sure that captain is a guy you’re building around and is a guy who’s going to stay a long time, whether it’s a Karlsson or Philly who could be leaving in two years or Neiler who could be leaving in two years, you never know."
The other lingering issue for Ryan is that he could be the next big player to leave Ottawa. His contract expires after this season and it appears he won’t be signing an extension before the season starts, instead opting to see how his role shakes out on the team.
This could be a tough year for the Senators, but if they can add some stability to the roster by naming one of their veterans captain of the team, they would likely best served in doing so.
