Chicago Bears (+2.5) over New York Jets

Because of the nature of their comeback win over the 49ers last week, the Bears are still underrated. However, this is as much about picking against the Jets at home, as it is about backing Chicago away from Soldier Field.

Jets quarterback Geno Smith is the epitome of the “up and down” player in the NFL, and against a Bears defense that is suddenly banged up in a big way, many are expecting Smith to have a big night. However, the bright lights of Monday Night Football may not be the best thing for the still-young quarterback, and Chicago will undoubtedly bring pressure in an attempt to force Smith into high-profile mistakes.

On the other side of the ball, the Bears will likely have their duo of wide receivers, Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery, healthier than last week and ready to go in this spot, and that is huge for Jay Cutler. In addition, Matt Forte has been slowed in each of the first two games, but Marc Trestman will almost certainly have a plan to free up his workhorse back, and I simply trust the Chicago offense to score points, even in what appears to be a tough spot.

New York’s defense is legitimate, but trusting the Jets to out-score Chicago is a tough leap to make, and when given nearly a field goal, I’ll take the Bears.
