The Boston Celtics are now the center of trade attention this year as they have the best available trade chip in the NBA at the moment. Rajon Rondo has been the subject of trade rumors for years now but this might be the season he is finally dealt.

This seems to suggest that Rondo isn’t a talent, as he’s always been trade bait it seems but never been traded. His contract is up this season though and with uncertainty about the future of the team, a Rondo trade is growing more and more likely.
Don’t expect one before training camp though. According to CSNNE.com’s A. Sherrod Blakley, the Celtics are unlikely to trade Rondo before training camp this year.
Notice that Blakely didn’t say Rondo won’t be traded at all, just not before training camp. With Kevin Love now in Cleveland and that situation largely resolved, Rondo has now become the name that everyone is looking at as being traded next.
He’s not guaranteed to be traded, as the Celtics could turn things around and make the postseason this year. But the probaility of Rondo factoring into the long term plans in Boston is increasingly unlikely as the team continues to rebuild and forge a future without Rondo in the picture.
