Today, Roger Goodell is gearing up for what is likely going to be the most important press conference of his life. He is the commissioner of the most important sporting league in America, and his league is being hit with turmoil from every direction. At this point, it looks like some of his previous decisions may need some revisions.

NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport has some thoughts as to what he expects Roger Goodell to touch on during his presser today:
Expect @NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to announce he wants to start over & redo the personal conduct policy in his press conference.

While there are a ton of different topics that could use Roger Goodell’s attention, this is likely a great place to start. Goodell has, by his own actions, backed himself into a corner, that he must work to get out of.
Looking at the cases of Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson, and Jonathan Dwyer, the NFL couldn’t be further from being portrayed in a good light. Former Minnesota radio personality Jeff Dubay may actually have put it best:
Goodell is a fraud with hero complex. No commish suspends more readily or harshly than him but not enough being done to address real issue
— Jeff Dubay (@jeffdubay) September 19, 2014
It’s a spot on assessment. Considering his track record, Goodell has acted differently in nearly every case he has dealt with. Precedence has been his damnation, and ego has been his measuring stick. For the sake of the continued success of the league, today needs to be about addressing issues, understanding the real problem, and taking steps to ensure that happens.
